Millions of Dollars in Unclaimed Property – Dallas Area Unclaimed Property to be Announced This Sunday
The Office of State Rep. Allen Vaught—February 8th, 2010
State Representative Allen Vaught is pleased to announce that Texans may now have a chance to be reunited with their unclaimed property. The State of Texas is currently holding more than $2 billion in forgotten money and items from old bank accounts, royalties and payroll checks, insurance policies, safe-deposit boxes and other sources. Each year, Texas businesses report this unclaimed property to the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts, and almost $147 million was returned to its rightful owners in the past fiscal year.
In these tough economic times, it is our goal to help Texas citizens gain their unclaimed property. For the past few months, newspapers around Texas have published the 2009 unclaimed property lists that include names of those who have more than $250 in unclaimed property. This Sunday, February 9th, our region will receive the 2009 Unclaimed Property List.
The Dallas Morning News will carry an insert with this information and a list of names in this Sunday’s paper. You can also search for unclaimed property at www.ClaimItTexas.org or you may call the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts at (800) 654-3463 or (512) 463-3120 and they will be happy to assist you with any and all questions you have regarding unclaimed property. One in four Texans has unclaimed property — please help us spread the word to ensure that everyone is reunited with their hard-earned dollars.
